Biography
My Dad, Anthony was born on September 22nd 1942. He was the third of nine children of Christopher Hughes and Catherine Connor. The early part of his life was spent living in Seatown, Swords at his grandparents’ house, the house no longer exists as it was demolished during the construction of the M1 Bridge that spans the estuary.
In the early 1950’s the family moved to No. 7 Newtown Cottages, Balheary, opposite Swords Celtic football grounds.
When Anthony left school he worked on a farm until illness meant he had to move to an indoor job working at the Plessey factory where he met Mum.
They were married in August 1965 and settled together in Hayestown, Rush, Co. Dublin. Around this time Dad moved Jobs to Technicon, later Bayer. He worked there until ill health forced him to retire in the mid-nineties.
Together they had three children and four grandchildren.
Dad was great at getting involved in the community, at various times he was involved with the scouts, local school and the credit union. He was also on the board of the Dublin branch of the kidney association.
Sadly, Dad passed away on April 26th 2015 and is buried in Whitestown cemetery in Rush.
