Biography
James Hughes was born May 11th 1907, the fourth of 8 children of Michael Hughes & Annie Green.
He is listed in the 1911 census at age 4, living with his parents and is attending school.
James married Catherine (Kathleen) Taaffe of Rathingle. Together they had five children; Michael John born 1938 (died 10 years ago) who married Eileen McLynsky from Parke, Castlebar, Co Mayo (children: Jacqueline,Raymond, Angela & Nichola). Desmond James born 1939 died July 2017 who married Ann Benton from Birmingham (children: Dean and Vanessa). Leonie Hughes born 1940 who married Michael Doyle from Carlow (children: Leonie, Alison, Matthew & Thomas). Kathleen (Geraldine) who married Reginald Morris from Birmingham (children: Garry, Natalie & Kay). Winifred (Freda) born in 1945 who married Brian Simpson (children: Lee, David & Helen).
James and the family emigrated to Birmingham, England in 1947. James worked for British Rail in Birmingham as a Fitters Mate repairing trains attending break downs etc. He died February 20th 1976, his wife Catherine died February 10th 1986 and are buried in Witton cemetery Birmingham.
